Quality sprinter Woorim rounded out a successful winter campaign when he went back to back in Saturday’s listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast.
After a luckless run in the Stradbroke Handicap, Woorim was able to produce his customary flying finish to reel in the leaders and race clear for a strong victory.
With winning trainer Robert Heathcote currently overseas on holidays it was left to stable representative Melissa Leitch to greet the winner following the event.
“It’s a team effort (while Robert’s been away) and everyone has put in and the horse put in another great effort today,” she said.
“The (wet) track was the big condition we were worried about. Before the rain came we were confident.”
“The horse had done so well (since the Strabroke Handicap) and pulled up so well and his work had been fantastic but when the rain came and the track was heavy I was on the phone to the owners and also on the phone to Rob – what do we do, what do we do.”
“When it was upgraded to a slow 7 this morning we decided we’d have a go,” she added.
“When I saw him come out at the top of the straight I thought this was it – here he comes, look out and it was all over!”
Owner Ross Cutts, who also raced Woorim’s sire Show a Heart, was thrilled to see his current star return to the winner’s stall.
“What a horse he is,” Cutts told AAP. “I am always worried when he gets so far back during the race but he finishes so brilliantly.”
“I’d love to win a Group One race with him and he’ll get his chance in the spring in Melbourne,” Cutts added.
Winning rider Damian Browne, one of the most inform riders in the country, was in awe of Woorim’s latest sensational effort.
“It was great,” he said. “Just imagine what he would have done on top of the ground.”
“He struggled through a lot of the ground, but he was the class horse and he really picked up and hit the line strong.”
A graduate of the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Woorim sent his earnings soaring past $560,000 following today’s win – not bad considering he could have been yours for $75,000.
Woorim is a son of Glenlogan Park’s leading sire Show a Heart – sire of Group One winners Toorak Toff and Heart of Dreams and MM Classic winner Mimi Lebrock.
He is one of two stakes performers produced by the Brisbane winning Canadian Silver mare Wabble.
Wabble, a winner of five in all, is a half sister to the stakes placegetter Indiana Storm and her other stakes galloper is Woorim’s full brother My Limit – a six time winner and earner of over $360,000.
