A beautifully bred filly by Manduro topped the first session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast today.
The star of a quality draft from Patinack Farm, the filly was catalogued as Lot 1529 and was knocked down for $500,000 to Magic Millions, acting as agent for an undisclosed client.
The filly is the first foal of the Sadler’s Wells mare Endless, a mare sold last week to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for $1.05 million.
Endless is a half sister to the stakes winner Kind – dam of world champion galloper, unbeaten sensation Frankel.
The second top price of the day was the $280,000 given for the More Than Ready-Danehill Smile filly, also from the unreserved reduction draft from Patinack Farm.
The bay filly is the second foal of the former explosive juvenile Danehill Smile – a mare whose first foal is already a winner.
The top priced colt today was Coolmore Australia’s Tale of the Cat colt, Lot 1462.
The colt, from the lightly raced High Rolling mare Casino Snip, is headed to Hong Kong where he will join the stables of Manfred Man.
During the day over $6.5 million was traded on 165 lots sold – at an average price of almost $40,000, well up on last year’s opening session. The clearance rate of 74 per cent was also up on last year.
Some 15 yearlings sold for six figures today – a record number for any session of the National Yearling Sale.
“It was a very patchy market,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported this evening.
“There were plenty of good sales but vendors must realise the market is what it is.”
“There’s plenty of people here to participate and we look forward to the realignment of the market tomorrow,” Cox added.
