Almost $700,000 was traded on the final day of the Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast today, bringing to an end the record breaking event.
The final session of the National Yearling Sale grossed over $319,000 on 72 lots sold – while the National Racehorse Sale brought in another $380,000 on 40 sales.
With the $699,200 from today added to the previous sessions of the National Sale, the total gross for the auction rounded out at $48,751,300.
This is over $14.2 million higher on last year’s sale gross of $34,524,100.
The top price during the third session of the National Yearling Sale was $25,000 by Matthew Dunn for a cracking Half Hennessy colt from Caminha.
As expected international Group One performer Dao Dao topped the National Racehorse Sale when selling to Melbourne bloodstock agent David O’Callaghan for $90,000.
Other lots popular during the Racehorse Sale included Sequalo Revenge ($37,000 to Edward O’Dwyer) and Mazuka ($36,000 to Tom Hedley).
Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester was delighted to learn that gross receipts from the National Sale reached over $48.75 million.
“The total gross for the sale is up over 41 per cent – that is a great result,” Chester reported.
“The sale came at a time when the stock market had taken a hit and the proposed mining tax was announced by Kevin Rudd.”
“Similar lead up style sales around Australasia had been very tough and we were expecting plenty of tough times.”
“But it is great to see the sale has exceeded the expectations of many – including mine.”
Chester said attracting the best ever catalogues and then buying benches to the sale was the winning recipe.
“We had great support from vendors around the country and overseas who entered some great prospects.”
“And then we were thrilled to host so many buyers from around Australia and particularly overseas who competed for their desired lots.”
The National Sale action will swing over the road tomorrow to the Gold Coast Turf Club for the running of the $100,000 Magic Millions National Plate (1200m).
A capacity field will line up in the feature race for two-year-olds.
