The thoroughbred industry dug deep for a great cause yesterday as over $900,000 was raised for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Fundraising efforts were held at both the Magic Millions raceday and last night at the fourth session of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
At the commencement of last night’s yearling sale five stallion nominations were sold for a total of $385,000.
And following the sale of the last lot a BMW M3 Convertible, kindly donated by our major sponsor BMW Group Australia, was auctioned.
Melbourne based owners Lloyd and Nick Williams purchased the outstanding motor vehicle for $200,000.
A number of other items generously donated by a large group of other industry players were sold with the support of Aushorse at a silent auction area at the sales complex with hundreds of thousands of dollars raised.
“We must thank everyone who donated or purchased items throughout the day and with counting still underway we have soared past the $900,000 mark,” Magic Millions Managing Director Stephen Silk said.
“The thoroughbred industry should be proud of their efforts in raising such substantial funds for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Fund,” Silk added.
