The three-year-old filly’s breakthrough victory gave Waterhouse, who trains in partnership with Adrian Bott, her 14th win on the lucrative raceday and her first in the country’s richest maiden race.
The daughter of Star Witness, who was purchased for $300,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, raced handy to the speed and, when asked by jockey Tim Clarke, exploded away from her rivals over the final 300m.
On the line, Terminology had just over a length to spare on the fast-finishing Rock for Team Hawkes, with a farther two lengths back to Brad Widdup’s filly Lagarde in third.
“I love Magic Millions,” Waterhouse said.
“It’s a very exciting carnival, there’s great horses, everyone is here and it’s a great place to be the Gold Coast.”
Jockey Tim Clark said he was delighted to win aboard Terminology, who was originally earmarked as one of the stables leading chances for last year’s Magic Millions Classic (1200m).
While she never lined up in the $2 million feature for two-year-olds, Terminology entered Saturday’s race as one of the favoured runners after several placings, including a last-start second to Military Zone in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).
“This filly, we thought she could win the Magic Millions (Classic) last year,” Clarke said.
“She’s just taken a bit of time to mature because she’s a big girl but she’s starting to put it all together now.”
Terminology’s half-sister by Rubick (Lot 209) sold for $200,000 to John Foote Bloodstock and Brae Sokolski on the opening day of the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
