Toowoomba sprinter Temple of Boom will be set for the Magic Millions Sprint in January after he scored a dashing win in the listed Century Stakes (1100m) at Flemington today.

The son of Piccolo was near the lead throughout on the outside fence after jumping from the outside barrier. Despite “stargazing” over the concluding stages he scored an easy win.

He led home a trifecta for graduates of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when he notched career victory number six.

A $40,000 purchase for trainer Tony Gollan at the 2008 Gold Coast auction, Temple of Boom sent his earnings over the $460,000 mark with the victory.

“It’s been a dream today,” Gollan beamed from the winner’s stall. “He’s never run a bad race this horse and he’s been racing against good three-year-olds in Queensland his whole career.”

“So we came down here confident he’d race well.”

“Everything worked out well. I looked at the weather before I left and I was probably the only here that was hopeful it would be wet.”

“There’s been a couple of other Toowoomba trainers down here going well – so it’s nice to be able to join them.”

Gollan, who trains about 35 at Toowoomba, said Temple of Boom would return to Queensland with the Magic Millions Sprint firmly in mind.

“We’ll probably head home now. We have the summer carnival up there – in a few weeks there is a Group Three and then I want to have a go at the Magic Millions Sprint in January.”

Winning rider Corey Brown was impressed with the performance of Temple of Boom.

“He was very strong late,” he said. “He was a touch slow away and it was probably a little bit of a blessing, because when he got near the front he was really stargazing.”

“He’s a tough little racehorse and you’d like to have a stable full of them,” Brown added.

In the run to the line Temple of Boom ($4-$6) held a three quarter length margin over Secret Flyer ($17-$21), while First Command ($8-$9-$7.50) was another head back in third place.

The win continued the incredible run of form from runners in January’s Magic Millions 3YO Trophy.

The first nine over the line in the race won by Graceful Anna at the Gold Coast have subsequently won stakes races. (Graceful Anna, Tallow, Love Conquers All, Latin News, Shoot Out, Captain Sonador, Femina Fashion, Temple of Boom and Doubtful Jack).

Temple of Boom was bred and sold by the McAlpine family’s Eureka Stud who also bred his stakes winning half brother Spirit of Boom.

They were both produced by the eight time winning and stakes performed Special Dane mare Temple Spirit.
