Local trainer Phillip Stokes made his presence felt during today’s first session of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale snapping up five lots including the sale’s top seller.
The renowned horseman was delighted to snare the prized lot of the sale – the More Than Ready-Sun Chariot colt from Baramul Stud for $210,000.
“He was a real stand out,” Stokes said. “He was the colt of the sale and I’m delighted to have been able to buy him.”
“He’s by one of the great stallions in the country in More Than Ready and he has a lot going for him.”
“The dam is a half sister to Super Satin – who I trained prior to him heading to Hong Kong (where he won the Derby).”
“And this colt has a lot more substance than Super Satin had at the same stage,” he added.
Stokes said the colt was the highest priced lot he’d ever purchased from his hometown sale.
“I have bought at virtually all of the sales around the country this year – but this sale is the one I’ve had plenty of success with.”
“It is great to be able to support the local sale and I couldn’t be happier with my five purchases,” Stokes summed up.
Victorian trainer Mark Riley struck later in the day to secure the day’s second top priced seller – a colt by Stratum for $140,000.
Offered by Rob and Maureen McBryde’s Summerset Park Stud, the colt is a half brother to the four time winning and stakes placed WA galloper Mr President.
Another local vendor to feature on the top selling leaderboard was the team from Meadowbrook Park.
Their Churchill Downs colt took the eye of many good judges and in the end it was David Hayes and Mark Pilkington who swooped at $125,000.
