Shout the Bar led home a first four result for Magic Millions sold runners in a vintage edition of the $1 million Group One Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington today. |
With champion jockey Damien Oliver in the saddle, Shout the Bar denied her rivals led by brilliant filly Odeum to win in a driving finish. Already a Group One winner in Sydney as a three-year-old, Shout the Bar made the progression to an elite Flemington carnival winner with her latest triumph. The daughter of Not a Single Doubt, who was a $200,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy, came back from being headed and a quick riding change from her rider. “I felt I needed to do something different,” Oliver said. “So I switched the whip to the left and she really responded and she came again and was too strong for them.” Shout the Bar is trained in partnership by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and they were more hopeful than confident leading into the carnival’s feature race for fillies and mares. “Blinkers were the key and a good strong ride from Damien Oliver,” co-trainer Adrian Bott said. “Here on Tuesday morning she had a really good look down the straight the first time.” “She got a little unbalanced on the wrong leg, so we were a little bit worried coming into today. It wasn’t the best work to be coming into but it’s good to see her bounce back.” “It was incredibly tough the way she kept fighting there,” Bott added. “She looked beaten on a number of occasions. I love the way she just picked herself up.” Shout the Bar was purchased for her owners by her co-trainers for $200,000 at the 2018 Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She was bred by Ron Finemore and offered on his behalf through the Newhaven Park draft. She’s one of almost 700 winners and 73 individual stakes winners by former Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy Not a Single Doubt and is from the Sydney winning O’Reilly mare Drinks All Round. Drinks All Round in turn is from a half sister to triple Group Two winner Satinka as well as the stakes performed dam of multiple Group One winner Rangirangdoo. Shout the Bar wasn’t the only Magic Millions sold runner to win on today’s Flemington card with former Adelaide Yearling Sale top seller Victoria Quay emerging as a star of the future in the Wakeful Stakes and the $140,000 Gold Coast buy Kemalpasa making it back to back wins in the Linlithgow Stakes.
