Sequalo Colt Tops Final Qtis Session

A colt by top Queensland sire Sequalo topped the second and final session of the Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast today.

On a day where the clearance rate improved from yesterday’s disappointing opening session, the Lyndhurst Stud Farm colt proved the day’s most popular lot when selling for $80,000.

A full brother to city winner Inventory and three quarter brother to stakes winner Holding, the colt was purchased by top Toowoomba based horseman Tony Sears.

John Morrisey picked up the day’s top selling filly, a daughter of leading juvenile sire Real Saga, for $60,000.

Catalogued as Lot 258 that filly is the first foal of the lightly raced Galileo mare Tequilakoko – a mare is from a daughter of Magic Millions Classic winner Our Fiction.

Yesterday’s record breaking Charge Forward-Sequential colt from Highgrove Stud remained the sale topper for the two day auction at $170,000.

With more sales likely to be completed tonight, the gross for the two day auction went past $6.2 million on 293 lots sold at a clearance rate of 71 per cent.

The average price of $21,193 was marginally down on last year’s QTIS Yearling Sale.

The sale attracted buyers from throughout Queensland with dozens of lots heading to regional locations while another good selection are set to head abroad with successful buyers from locations including China, Singapore and New Zealand.

“It’s remarkable to finish the sale with a clearance of 71 per cent, although that is still unsatisfactory,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox stated.

“All the traditional buyers participated and there was some new blood from interstate and overseas.”

“The results tell us that there is a lack of confidence in the local industry.”

“I commend the vendors that met the market today. I’m sure some of the prices weren’t palatable.”

“The Queensland industry has some soul searching ahead however the good thing is that Queensland Racing are putting the fundamentals together to get racing heading in the right direction,” Cox added.
