Atomic Force overcame a sluggish start and a wide run to win yesterday’s Gronp One Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie in New Zealand.

Relishing the slow track, Atomic Force proved too good in the feature kiwi sprint – beating home The Hombre by a half length.

The trip across the Tasman was “Option B” for Atomic Force with connections left scratching their head after he was surprisingly not selected to contest the Hong Kong International Sprint last month.

A Group One winner last year in the Galaxy Handicap in Sydney, Atomic Force has turned out a great money spinner for his Dynamic Syndications connections after being purchased for just $50,000 from the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Dynamic’s Dean Watt was all smiles in the winner’s stall and paid tribute for turning around Atomic Force who was all but “sacked” from a city stable.

“He was having problems with his feet and Darren had his feet re-done,” Watt said. “An he’s also much happier in the paddock rather than stalls in Sydney.”

“He had been dismissed as a bush horse but he’s earned 23 cheques in 23 starts since Darren’s had him and won nine times.”

“It’s a great thrill. Right now I don’t need a plan to fly home to Sydney,” Watt summed up the feeling.

Watt said connections would wait and see whether they would stay in New Zealand for the Group One Telegraph Handicap or head to the Gold Coast for the $4.3 million Magic Millions raceday.

Atomic Force, bred by Geoff and Kathy Warfield in Queensland, is one of 133 stakes winners by Danehill’s outstanding sire son Danehill Dancer.

He is one of five winners produced by the well bred and top performed Luskin Star mare Show of Force.

From the family of Caulfield Guineas winner Encounter, Show of Force won two races at two and was four times stakes placed before being retired to stud.

Show of Force’s placings included a second in the Group Three Sweet Embrace Stakes and third in the Group One AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
