A colt by King of Roses, the very last lot in the catalogue, topped today’s second and value packed session of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
Well known horsewoman Marilyn Smith bid to $52,000 to secure the top priced lot of the day on behalf of NT based operation G & C Pastoral Co Pty Ltd.
“A really lovely colt – the pick of today’s sale,” Smith said after outlasting a number of underbidders on the attractive youngster.
“He has a great head, is well put together and is extremely well balanced.”
“You could see he was almost tripping over himself in the ring because he’d been so busy in and out of his box over the past couple of days,” she added.
Smith said she wasn’t surprised she had to go to a session topping price to secure the colt from the draft of Fairways Bloodstock.
“He is by a handy sire and the cross has worked well with his full brother performing well overseas.”
“We’re pleased to be able to buy him and we hope he can develop into a top racetrack prospect,” she summed up.
All up today over $1.44 million was traded on 123 lots sold at an average price of $11,713 at the lofty clearance rate of 85 per cent.
“It was a solid day’s selling,” Magic Millions Acting Managing Director David Chester noted.
“To have the clearance rate increase from 76 per cent last year to 85 per cent today is very encouraging.”
“In fact I note that no other yearling sale in Australasia this year can boast such a high clearance rate – and this is working off figures derived on the day – without further lots being sold post-sale.”
“Buyers on hand today got exceptional value and there’s no doubt these buyers will be back again next year.”
Chester said the Magic Millions focus would now turn to the upcoming Perth Thoroughbred Sale feature the dispersal of breeding stock of Oakland Park Stud as well as April’s QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.
