A half sister to today’s thrilling Group Two Adelaide Cup winner Rialya will go under the hammer at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale tomorrow.
The Stratum filly is catalogued as lot 177 and is a member of the Kirkliston Stud draft.
Today just a stone’s throw from her box at the sale, the yearling’s big half brother Rialya did the job, scoring his best win to date in South Australia’s premier staying contest.
After being clearly headed in the straight by more fancied rival Drunken Sailor, Rialya showed great fight to wear away that runner’s clear lead and get up for a famous win.
Rialya is prepared at the track by 28-year-old trainer Lloyd Kennewell and is raced by the family’s long time friend and client Luke Koumi.
Completing the dream local result, Rialya was expertly ridden by Shayne Cahill – a close friend of the Kennewell family who wasted hard to ride the galloper at 54 kilograms.
“Shayne gave him a beautiful ride,” Kennewell said moments after the win. “Just a terrific ride.”
“This horse is tough. He’s strong and we just can’t believe he’s actually done it.”
“It’s surreal,” a beaming Kennewell added. “I’m 28 and this is my first big race win.”
Rialya now boasts the impressive record of seven wins from 24 starts and earnings of over $447,000.
He is one of five winners, from five runners, for the grand producing Prince Echo mare Ettu Blu.
A city winner in her own right, Ettu Blu is a half sister to the Luke Koumi raced stakes performers Lotto Rock, Mono Rock and Xaarhea.
“It’s a great thrill to not only own the winner, but also to have bred the winner – I also bred his dam and grandam as well,” Koumi said.
Ettu Blu is now owned by John Thompson’s Kirkliston Stud at Nairne and her latest product is a chestnut filly by Stratum.
That filly is a member of Kirkliston’s Adelaide Yearling Sale draft of 2012 and she will go under the hammer tomorrow afternoon during the first session of the auction.
