The success of last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale is evidenced through an outstanding line up of juveniles set to contest the $250,000 QTIS 600 2YO Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Scheduled to run on the eve of the 2010 sale, which will be held on Sunday and Monday, the race has attracted 35 entries from around the state.

With the field limited to 16 runners the cut off prizemoney earner at present is Count Spur, a $16,000 earner for the Bryan Guy stable.

Quality Sunshine Coast filly Tough Luck heads the order of entry having earned $271,250 for the Robert Bradshaw stable.

North Queensland youngster Steel Dragon, transferred this week to Magic Millions Classic winning trainer Gillian Heinrich, has earned $163,800.

Alan Bailey’s exciting Markane youngster Marking Time is the other six figure earner to date – he’s already banked his connections $148,500.

Those three two-year-olds alone could have been purchased at the Magic Millions sales last year for $81,000. As it stands the trio have already earned $583,550.

“The benefit of buying a QTIS 600 Yearling is clearly shown with the field for the race at the Gold Coast on Saturday,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said.

“Tough Luck, a $9,000 bargain, has earned $271,250 and she was only purchased a year ago – quite staggering isn’t it.”

“The QTIS 600 Yearling Sale is the perfect spot for a Queenslander to buy a horse this year.”

A number of the leading contenders for Saturday’s big race are by Hidden Dragon or Jet Spur – the two hot young freshman sires of Queensland.

No first season sire has been represented by more winners in Australia this season than Jet Spur and he looks set to have three runners in the $250,000 feature.

Hidden Dragon has also made every post a winner this season and Steel Dragon and Hidden Kisses will lead his weekend charge.

“The average price of a yearling at the sale last year was just $18,424 – this is great value considering the prizemoney and bonuses available for that yearling to compete for later on.”

“There is over $16 million in extra prizemoney to be won by horses sold at the sale this week – that is on top of usual stakes.”

The sale will kick away at 11am on each day and the sale will be broadcast live via the Magic Millions website.
