My Emotion booked a trip to Adelaide for the Group One Australasian Oaks with a strong win in the Group Two MV Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

A group winner on debut at two, My Emotion has always been held in high regard by trainer Mick Kent and she is now aiming to join racing’s elite group with a Group One success.

A $230,000 purchase from the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, My Emotion sent her earnings to $279,450 with the impressive three quarter length victory.

Kent said the key to victory tonight was getting the well bred filly out to 1600 metres after two runs at 1200 metres including her last start slashing effort at Caulfield.

“I probably made a bit of a blue going to 1200 (metres) again second up,” Kent noted. “But I put the blinkers on her and didn’t want to go up in trip.”

“The Valley suits her because it’s tough. They get going early and she can keep coming on.”

“She’d only had the one run at the Valley before and won – I always knew it would suit her.”

“It was a lovely ride and she got the result.”

Right from the time she first hit the track, My Emotion has raced well and she’s earned a cheque at all of her lifetime starts, but one.

“She’s certainly got the ability and the talent,” Kent said. “It was good to see her get the mile because that gives us the option of going to Adelaide for the Oaks now.”

“She was a Group Three winner at the first start. She’s always had plenty of talent. She had no luck in the Thousand Guineas and that was her only other time at a mile.”

“Her pedigree you’d think she’d handle it and I’m looking forward to her next few races.”

Kent is unsure whether My Emotion will have another run or go into the Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on March 20 without another start.

“It’s a big tight. The program has been mucked up a bit here. There’s a Guineas over there (in Adelaide) or we might go straight into it.”

“We’ll just see how she does in between,” Kent summed up.

My Emotion ($4.80-$5) held a three quarter length margin on the line over fellow Magic Millions graduate Speedy Natalie ($4-$5).

Gerry Harvey’s homebred Aloha ($4-$5) was third, while another Magic Millions graduate, the recent group winner Tallow ($3.70-$4) was fourth over the line.

My Emotion, by star Gold Coast graduate and Cox Plate winner Savabeel, is from a lightly raced Rory’s Jester mare Midnight Rock – ironically a half sister to tonight’s third placegetter Aloha.
