The value of buying at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale received international acclaim when the homebred Redoute’s Choice colt Musir won this morning’s Group Two UAE Derby at Meydan in Dubai.

Bred in Australia by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Musir was sent to South Africa as a young horse where master horseman Mike De Kock has turned him into a star.

Retained by his breeder after failing to sell at auction, Musir is from the Encosta de Lago mare Dizzy De Lago.

Stakes placed in the listed Dequetteville Stakes in Adelaide as a juvenile, Dizzy De Lago was purchased from the draft of Lakewood Stud at the 2003 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale for just $40,000.

Renowned Victorian bloodstock agent Kevin Dagg signed for the filly – who hails from a black type filled international family.

Dizzy De Lago, now eight, raced on just three occasions – for her Dequetteville second (to Crystal Wit) and thirds at both Flemington and Moonee Valley.

Crowned the Champion 2YO Colt of South African last year, Musir has won five of his six starts from 1000 to 1900 metres.

He was allowed to settle back at the tail of the field this morning before coming with a brilliant burst to hit the front and then race away.

De Kock said there were plans to send Musir to Australia to try his luck against the best of his fellow Aussie breds.
