The country Queenslanders struck at Eagle Farm on Saturday when quality youngster Rocket to Glory stormed to victory in the $250,000 QTIS 600 Geon Group Plate (1200m) on Saturday.
In a magnificent result for Raheen Stud and their resident sire Shovhog, Rocket to Glory made it four feature juvenile wins in succession when he beat home Gold Coast youngster Noisy Ocean.
The gelding was saddled up in his latest rich race by in form Sunshine Coast based horseman Darryl Hansen – a former Rockhampton based trainer who the youngster was transferred to by original trainer and his yearling sale purchaser John Manzelmann.
Manzelmann had the reins when Rocket to Glory won his previous three starts in the $25,000 Great Northern Prelude and $100,000 Great Northern Plate at Townsville and the $150,000 QTIS 600 Plate at Rockhampton.
His wife Stacey shares ownership in the exceptional young moneyspinner with a group of Longreach owners. The group is enjoying the ride of their life.
Hansen said Rocket to Glory was an exciting young galloper who, after some earlier issues were fixed, has been a revelation.
“One of his testicles was bigger than the other and it affected him when he galloped,” Hansen said.
“But once we gelded him he came good and he’s a very special horse.”
Hansen, who rounded out the day with a treble, said Rocket to Glory had earned a spell. He is also hoping the youngster will return to his stable after that break for another Brisbane campaign.
“He’ll now go for a spell but I’m hoping he’ll stay with me when he comes back,” Hansen added.
Rocket to Glory, a graduate of Queensland’s historic Raheen Stud, was purchased by John Manzelmann for $20,000 at last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.
From 11 career outings to date he’s earned over $400,000 – to rank himself as one of the country’s highest grossing juveniles of the season.
Crossing from a wide barrier early in the race, Rocket to Glory ($5.50) was able to lead throughout, dash clear on straightening and then hold out the Gold Coast youngster Noisy Ocean ($5) to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Both the winner and runner-up are by Danehill’s stakes winning and siring son Shovhog – a resident of Raheen Stud.
A full brother to the smart four time country Queensland winner Rocket on By, Rocket to Glory is one of three winners from three to race for the unraced Dodge mare English Summer.
She in turn is a daughter of the five time winning Crown Jester mare Go Madge.
It’s the same family as stakes winners Apollua, Sam Sung a Song, I’m Scarlet, Big Scope and Tumberlua.
