The build up to the $250,000 Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic (1100m) was in full swing at Ascot today with two quality juvenile races run – both won by Magic Millions graduates – both youngsters by emerging Danehill stallion Bearcat.

Time to Climb and Kiddy Cat both staked their claims for the big race which will be run at Ascot on January 30 with great performances.

The Trevor Andrews trained Time to Climb kicked away the milestone double for his first season sire when successful in the first event over 1000 metres.

Sent out the $1.65 favourite, Time to Climb found plenty under Shaun O’Donnell to get up and beat Noname City and Street Image.

“It was a good effort,” Andrews reported. “She jumped pretty professionally and she didn’t have an easy run by any means, but she fought on good.”

“With two weeks to the Magic Millions (2YO Classic) she should only improve fitness wise.”

“She’s very relaxed and she probably needed the run (today) to bring her on a bit.”

Andrews said it was full steam ahead to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic – the $250,000 feature looking at its best ever line up in 2010.

“I’ll also have Absolute Pleasure in the race and it is nice going into the race with two very nice fillies.”

Time to Climb, who has a full brother catalogued for this month’s Perth Yearling Sale, was purchased from the 2009 version of the sale by leading bloodstock agent John Chalmers for $75,000.

Meanwhile, David Harrison unearthed a Magic Millions Classic contender when Kiddy Cat, making her racetrack debut, scored an exciting win in the second event.

In beating home Hot Tamale and Ortessa in a long head, long head result, Kiddy Cat booked her place in the field for January 30.

“It was a good, tough effort,” Harrison said. “I think she was off her feet about a furlong out.”

“I was planning on just trialling her and putting her in Magic Millions first up but I think there’s too many horses around this year and I thought she’d have to get some stake money to get a run in it.”

“So she’s probably four or five lengths off her best yet.”

“She’s a flying machine. Does everything tractably. She doesn’t do anything wrong at home – she’s a pleasure to train.”

Kiddy Cat was purchased last year for a mere $14,000 from the draft of Taunton Vale by Harrison. She is shaping as one of the early best value buys from the famous sale.

There are 27 yearlings by Bearcat catalogued for the upcoming Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and with his latest metropolitan milestone – his progeny will be on the short lists of most at the Belmont auction.

Bearcat, a four time winner in Hong Kong, is by Danehill and is a full brother to Catbird and Danbird.
