Star Perth three-year-old For Your Eyes Only is set to be aimed at the big summer sprints of the west after upstaging her older rivals in today’s $75,200 listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) at Belmont.
In a remarkable training achievement by Paul Jordan, For Your Eyes Only was able to reel in Ma Ma Machine in the dash before racing clear for an emphatic win.
Just two runs back the brilliant filly contested the Group Three West Australian Oaks over 2400 metres.
Jordan elected to keep the filly in the stables over the winters months and today she notched her third stakes victory.
“She’s a superstar,” Jordan said. “We love her, she’s just great.”
“She’s won 10 races and she’s just been terrific. She’ll have one more run and then she’ll go out.”
Jordan was happy with how the race unfolded for him watching from the grandstand.
“We got a nice run. Ma Ma Machine went out really fast and Jimmy’s horse went really hard and we had the sit on them.”
A winner of the Magic Millions Perth 3YO Trophy earlier in the year, For Your Eyes Only will most likely have one more run before a stint in the paddock.
“We might run in the Newmarket – I’ll talk to the owners,” Jordan commented.
Jordan said the Winterbottom Stakes at Group Two level would be a major goal for the Bletchley Park filly at the end of the year.
It was announced during the week that the race, which in recent years has been won by Takeover Target and Ortensia, would be worth $750,000 this year.
“Any race that she runs in she will be a chance,” he summed up.
Jordan was quick to point out that the boost in money for the Winterbottom would mean stakes for other feature races would be reduced.
“She can then have a break and come back for the race they upped the ante with – but took the stakes from other races to do it.”
“Perhaps that will get reported in the week.”
The win of For Your Eyes Only was celebrated by Rob and Jodie Gray of Rangeview Stud, who bred and sold the youngster for $23,000 from the 2008 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
Her impressive record now reads out at 10 wins and four minor placings from just 19 starts. Her earnings have shot to an imposing $548,800.
The filly is raced by a large group headed by Harvey Crossman’s Lima Syndicate.
A daughter of the four time winning Key Business mare Communique, For Your Eyes Only is one of the most valuable horses in Perth.
Her dam, who won three on Perth tracks, is a half sister to the group performed five time winner Dead Eye Dick.
Further back it is the family of stakes winners including Dr John, Mr Cube and Paris Moon.
