Quality filly Ingham Magic broke her maiden status in style by romping away with today’s Guineas Restaurant Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury.
Sent out one of the fancied runners after an unlucky last start third, when she was caught terribly wide throughout, Ingham Magic let her class shine through this time around, streaking away to win by two and a half lengths.
Runner-up Aint’s She Grand tried hard but she was no match for Ingham Magic. Nocturnelle was the best of the rest in third place.
The win of Ingham Magic was the second on the card for premiership winning trainer Chris Waller – he was impressed with the win and predicted more into the future for the Magic Albert filly.
“From barrier one you can always be too aggressive,” Waller said. “A lot make sure they are up with the trail or even up on the lead, but I said to Hugh before the race to get her breathing right.”
“He certainly did that and that was Hugh Bowman at his best.”
“She’s just been lacking a bit of confidence. A couple of times there (prior to today) I think she was holding her breath.”
“She’s turned the corner now and hopefully we can go on to better things,” he added.
Ingham Magic has always shown plenty of ability and was a close up fourth placegetter in the Widden Stakes earlier in the year. There’s little doubt it is only a matter of time before the filly earns black type and significantly boosts her future broodmare value.
As her name suggests, Ingham Magic is raced by the Ingham family and carries their famous all cerise colours.
She was purchased by the family for $110,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Yarraman have entered her yearling half brother by War Pass for the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale series.
Ingham Magic, a daughter of former outstanding Magic Millions graduate and leading sire Magic Albert, is one of two winners for the 100 per cent winner producer Mi Chiamo.
A daughter of Catbird, Mi Chiamo was a Brisbane winner and earned black type with a third placing in the listed Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick in Sydney.
She in turn is from the five time Sydney winning Bureaucracy mare Lady Bureaucrat – a full sister to Doomben Cup winner Mr Bureaucrat and half sister to Waller’s ill fated group winner All Black Gold and the stakes performed Nozomi Express.
