A trip north to contest Queensland’s richest race was confirmed for speedy Victorian filly I’m Too Sexy after her history making win in Sunday’s $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat.
Sent out as one of the more fancied runners after an impressive clockwise jump out win earlier in the month, I’m Too Sexy cruised home to win the inaugural race by three lengths.
Trainer Mark Riley said the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 12 was the main mission for the untapped filly.
In winning the first clockwise race in Victoria in over 65 years, I’m Too Sexy notched the first win for her sire, Cornerstone Stud based Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan.
“We know we have a very good filly,” Riley told media after the impressive victory.
“Logan McGill got off her one day and said ‘you’ve got a Thousand Guineas filly, put her away.”
“But I said the Magic Millions is there. I think we’ll stick to the plan and take her there (to the Gold Coast).”
“I told Luke (Currie, winning rider) that the first 50 yards are crucial. We’ve really got to make her begin well and be right up there.”
“She’s got the greatest attitude,” Riley added. “She’s just a real racehorse.”
Riley said he would wait and see how the filly pulls up before deciding on her path to the $2 million feature.
After crossing to the lead in the early stages of the race I’m Too Sexy ($7) raced clear over the concluding stages to beat proven winner Ticket to Toorak ($8.50) by three lengths.
The David Hayes trained Gracious Prospect ($10), also with the benefit of a start, finished strongly to grab third, just ahead of recent trial winner Change of Honour ($4.80 fav).
I’m Too Sexy was purchased by part owner Rob Dunnett for $30,000 from the draft of Summerset Park Stud at March’s Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
A half sister to the stable’s former group performed three-year-old Stralia, I’m Too Sexy is a daughter of Reaan and from the good producing Quest for Fame mare Duchess Cara.
An unraced mare, Duchess Cara has produced six winners from six runners for her owners, Rob and Maureen McBryde. I’m Too Sexy looks destined to be her third stakes performer.
The mare doesn’t have a 2012 spring product after not being served last spring – but she is currently in foal to internationally proven sire Hussonet.
The inaugural running of the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic was declared a stunning success according to officials.
“It’s been a tremendous day and the race was a great spectacle,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “We couldn’t be happier.”
“Full credit to the team from the Ballarat Turf Club on their hard work in making the race a reality. We are already looking forward to the second running next year!”
Ballarat Turf Club CEO Lachlan McKenzie was equally as thrilled with the history making race.
“The race gained so much press in the lead up and really captured the imagination of racegoers,” McKenzie said.
“There was a real buzz around the track and it certainly proved a real highlight on a great day’s racing.”
