Champion international sprinter Rocket Man was the big winner at Singapore’s Horse of the Year Awards at a glittering ‘night of the stars’ held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel last night.
The popular galloper, who is preparing for the big sprint at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night, won three awards including the night’s major gong.
As well as being crowned the Horse of the Year, Rocket Man was also recognised as the region’s Champion Sprinter and Champion Four-Year-Old.
A $60,000 Magic Millions National Yearling purchase for Andy Williams’ World Wide Bloodstock outfit, Rocket Man was recognised for an outstanding 2010 calendar year in which his domentic record in Singapore remained faultless.
Another big winner on the night was Risky Business, another Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase ($90,000).
That Steven Burridge trained gekding was crowned the Champion Older Horse as well as Champion Stayer after winning the Singapore Gold Cup.
Burridge was rewarded for his outstanding year with the Champion Trainer award while Joao Moreira, Mark Ewe and the Jupiter Stable were the respective winners of the Champion Jockey, Apprentice Jockey and Owner awards.
Rounding out a memorable night for Magic Millions graduates, $30,000 bargain buy Gingerbread Man was a runaway victor of the Champion Two-Year-Old category.
A son of Shamardal, Gingerbread Man was purchased by Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant James Dawson on behalf of Joe Singh.
Magic Millions Acting Managing Director David Chester was on hand at the awards and thrilled six of the nine horse awards were presented to graduates of his company.
