Baramul Stud graduate Double Impact has won Australia’s first two-year-old race of the 2010-11 racing season, the $75,000 Hopeful Plate (1000m) at Toowoomba today.

Tracking the speed for much of the race, Double Impact worked home stylishly on the inside of runners to get the lead and race clear for an easy two length win.

The Mossman gelding started at $5 with bookmakers after two handy trial efforts and in the run to the line he was too strong for Flammable ($6.50).

Ad Valorem youngster Tax Evader ($4.20) was sent out one of two equal favourites and ran third, another three parts of a length back.

The Hopeful Plate has a proud history of producing quality juveniles and today’s winner Double Impact looks to have an exciting future.

The Gary Geran mount is trained by Jackie Crompton and was purchased by senior part owner Jimmy Georgiou for $35,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The gelding won Georgiou and his nine co-owners $48,000 from today’s race alone.

The youngster was bred by Gerry Harvey and sold through his quality packed Baramul Stud draft at the Gold Coast.

A half sister to Double Impact, by Danewin’s Group One winning son Excites, is set to go under the hammer at March’s 2011 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Both were produced by the lightly raced Barathea mare Cornish Moss – a half sister to the Melbourne stakes winner Heaps of Fun.

Cornish Moss is from the Moonee Valley winner Calemoss, a half sister to Group One winner Caledonian Boy as well as the dam of the Thousand Guineas winner Lady of the Pines.

The win capped a successful day for Vinery Stud stallion Mossman who was represented by today’s Bonecrusher Stakes winner at Ellerslie, Hoofit (ex Chuckle).
