One of the world’s most recognisable racing trophies will join thousands of thoroughbred lovers at the Gold Coast this week.
The Tooheys New Golden Slipper Stakes trophy won earlier this year by the Corumbene Stud graduate Overreach will be on display at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Racing fans will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the unique trophy at the source location of so many of the race’s recent winners.
It is fitting the trophy could go on show at the Gold Coast considering the record of Magic Millions graduates in the world’s richest juvenile race.
Eight of the last 10 winners of the race offered at auction were sold through the Gold Coast ring of Magic Millions. Those recent winners include valuable young sires Pierro, Sebring and Stratum.
Two horses, Dance Hero and Phelan Ready, have completed the Magic Millions Classic and Golden Slipper double, while Magic Millions has sold multiple Sydney juvenile triple crown winners.
“Golden Slipper winning colts are literally worth their weight in Gold,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
“This is particularly evident through Magic Millions graduates Pierro (sold for $35 million), Sebring ($28 million) and Stratum ($25 million),” he added.
Cox thanked Slipper winner George Altomonte for loaning the trophy for the public to get a closer look.
“The Tooheys New Golden Slipper is one of the world’s great races and is such an important race in regard to the Australasian Thoroughbred industry,” he noted.
“Over the last decade or so Magic Millions graduates have excelled in the race and with the great line up of yearling we have on offer I’m confident we’ll be selling the 2015 Slipper winner this week.”
Australia’s second richest two-year-old race, the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic will be run at the Gold Coast on Saturday and has attracted a capacity field of 16 plus five emergencies.
The Tooheys New Golden Slipper Stakes is run at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse on the first Saturday in April each year and is the most important race in the Australian breeding landscape.
