Broadmeadow trainer Darren Smith celebrated his first Group 1 victory when Atomic Force scored a comprehensive win in the James Boag Galaxy Hcp (1100m) at Randwick today.
“I ran second in this race years and years ago with a horse called Varikos,” Smith told AAP.
“Mr. Tiz beat him so it’s great that I’ve been able to win this race today.
“When it started raining I couldn’t believe it. The horse is going terrific and it’s my first Group One.
“We’ve had some handy horses but we’ve never been quite able to get there in a Group One.”
Atomic Force is owned by a large contingent of owners who were assembled by Sydney syndicator Dean Watt under his Dynamic Syndications banner.
Watt secured Atomic Force as yearling for just $50,000 from Basil Nolan’s Raheen Stud draft at the 2007 Magic Millions Summer Yearling Sale.
Atomic Force (by Danehill Dancer) gave Coolmore Stud stallions a Group 1 double on the prestigious Randwick card.
In the previous race, Danehill Dancer’s Coolmore based son Choisir collected the Doncaster Mile trophy with another Magic Millions graduate in Sacred Choice.
Atomic Force also gave Randwick racecaller Mark Shean added pleasure.
Shean raced Atomic Force’s dam Show of Force, a talented sprinting daughter of Luskin Star who placed at Group 1 level as a two year-old in the Champagne Stakes.
