The unprecedented run of wins in juvenile races for Magic Millions graduates continued on Saturday with five metropolitan winners again.
Rubick led the way in Melbourne with an awesome win in the Blue Diamond Prelude for colts and geldings, while winners in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth continued the success during the day.
The only city two-year-old race not won by Magic Millions was captured by the Darley homebred Earthquake, while Gold Coast Yearling purchase and proven stakes winner Eloping was second.
The Blue Diamond Stakes in just under a fortnight is on the cards for quality colt Rubick after his highly impressive win at Caulfield on Saturday.
The son of Encosta de Lago put up a big performance to win after a sluggish get away – working at both ends of the race to win impressively.
Trainer Gerald Ryan said the colt would be close to spot on with that run under his belt when he steps out next in the Group One Melbourne feature.
A $460,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase for David Raphael from Vinery Stud, Rubick was bred by Teeley Assets who wrapped up a big day when Lankan Rupee won the Group Two Rubiton Stakes.
Rubick is unbeaten in two starts and he looks to have an extremely bright future for connections who now include Coolmore Stud after that operation brought a share in the colt on the eve of the race.
The 100th individual stakes winner for Encosta de Lago, Rubick is from the San Domenico Stakes winning Rock of Gibraltar mare Sliding Cube, a three quarter sister to Redoute’s Choice and Platinum Scissors and half sister to Manhattan Rain.
Being a son of Encosta de Lago, Rubick is therefore a three quarter brother himself to Manhattan Rain, a winner of the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and runner-up in the Cox Plate.
This family will feature heavily at the quality packed Teeley Assets Dispersal and Reduction Sale at the Magic Millions National Sale starting in late May.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse and Star Thoroughbreds’ Denise Martin continued their run of wins with Magic Millions graduates when unbeaten youngster Law won impressively at Randwick on Saturday.
A son of highly regarded first season sire Denman, Law cruised home under Nash Rawiller to win impressively.
The Golden Slipper Stakes now beckons the colt who cost the Star team $90,000 from the Fig Tree Thoroughbreds draft at last year’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The first runner for his stakes winning Peruvian dam Lady Cat, Law has already earned $108,750 from two starts. He won the listed Breeders’ Plate on debut last year.
Law’s dam Lady Cat, a daughter of Sir Cat, won five races including a Group Three and she in turn is from the Chile’s Champion 4YO+ Mare Arabian Lady, a 15 time winner.
Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan is hoping to retain exciting youngster Looks Like The Cat after his barnstorming debut win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The promising youngster has attracted strong interest from Hong Kong buyers and Gollan thought at one stage he may have lost the colt before his first run.
The son of Husson, a $60,000 National Weanling purchase from Patinack Farm, couldn’t have been more impressive in his length and three quarter win over Vintage Bon and No Problem.
Looks Like the Cat is the second winner from three named foals for the Oakbank winning Fraar mare Fiery Dee – a winner of three races from 1400 to 1900 metres.
Fiery Dee is a half sister to the Group Three SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner and Wakeful Stakes runner-up Silent Surround.
Deiheros continued the great run of affordable Adelaide Yearling Sale graduates when the debuting youngster scored a gutsy win at Morphettville on Saturday.
A $6,500 buy from the Bowness Stud draft at last March’s Adelaide sale, Deiheros was clearly headed, but came back late to win impressively and win $25,000 in the process for connections.
While son sales are yet to notch a Saturday two-year-old winner his season, the Adelaide Sale has produced six already including two Melbourne Spring Carnival stakes winners.
Prepared by Lloyd Kennewell, Deiheros is a son of Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Bon Hoffa and is the first named foal of the three time winning Integra mare Philippa’s Music.
Philippa’s Music latest yearling, a full sister to Deiheros, is Lot 366 in next month’s Adelaide Yearling Sale, a member of the Bowness Stud draft.
Exciting Perth youngster Cadenza will most likely back up in Saturday’s $250,000 Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic after a highly impressive debut win at Ascot yesterday.
Prepared by Dan Morton, Cadenza came from near the tail of the field on the corner to reel in the leaders and scored an impressive win.
The Oratorio filly from the Melbourne winning Seignorial mare Lady Mambo was bred and sold for $60,000 at last year’s Perth Yearling Sale by veteran WA horseman Dick Vincent through his De Grey Park draft.
Lady Mambo is a half sister to triple Group One winning sire Barely a Moment, another De Grey Park sold Perth Yearling Sale graduate.
It was fitting Cadenza would debut on the same day that Barely a Moment’s crack son and fellow Perth Yearling Sale buy Moment of Change would win Melbourne’s Group One CF Orr Stakes.
Lady Mambo’s latest yearling, a colt by War Chant, is catalogued as Lot 92 for the upcoming Perth Yearling Sale. He will go under the hammer on Tuesday week at Belmont.
