History was made in Macau tonight when quality galloper Dr Sweet beat a crack field in the $500,000 Magic Millions “Home of Champions” Trophy (1200m).

With KM Chin in the saddle, the Gary Moore prepared gelding upstaged Golden Star and won the first race ever contested in Macau restricted to graduates of a single thoroughbred sales company.

Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester was on hand at the track to watch the race and congratulate the connections.

“Dr Sweet proved his status as one of the most talented short course gallopers in Macau in the Magic Millions Trophy,” Chester commented.

“Trainer Gary Moore has been a great supporter of Magic Millions sales over the year and Dr Sweet is yet another of his successful Gold Coast graduates.”

Dr Sweet was purchased for $40,000 from the draft of Baramul Stud at the 2008 Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale.

He’s now won six of his 14 starts and earned over HK$1.3 million (A$175,000).

In the run to the line Dr Sweet packed too many guns and the son of King Cugat held a two length advantage over the runner up – trained by Geoff Allendorf and ridden by Martin Cangas.

Notevenow, for Cash Wong and KC Chong, was third, a further three parts of a length back, a breath ahead of the favourite Golden Star.

Dr Sweet, by Rivers End Stud’s proven Group One sire King Cugat, is one of two winners (from two runners) produced by the unraced Canny Lad mare Retro Chic.

She is a sister to Voodoo Belle, the dam of Spirited One, and half sister to Venere, the stakes performed dam of Maxisun.

Dr Sweet’s third dam is none other than Group One VRC Oaks and Thousand Guineas winner Rom’s Stiletto.

A half brother to Dr Sweet by Group One winning sire Excites has been entered for January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
