Excelorada confirmed his status as one of the best 1000 metre horses in Perth with a deserved stakes win in Saturday’s listed RS Crawford Stakes at Ascot.
In breaking through for his first black type success, Excelorada notched win eight from 10 lifetime starts over five furlongs.
“He’s just got better and better,” winning trainer Neville Parnham said. “Considering where he was a year ago.”
“We gave him a big long spell. But he hasn’t had a spell since. He’s been in impeccable form all the way though.”
“I think he won in May, his maiden at Northam, and he’s been racing all the way through winter. He’s had a couple of respites where he hasn’t raced, but he hasn’t been out of work.”
Excelorada, a graduate of Victoria’s Erinvale Thoroughbreds, was purchased for $100,000 by Parnham’s Racing Stable at the 2009 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
His earnings have now raced to $246,930 and that looks set to be boosted with a next start in the Summer Scorcher over his pet distance at Ascot. Parnham said the tough gelding would almost certainly head to the paddock after the Summer Scorcher.
The 58th stakes winner for former speed sensation Exceed and Excel, Excelorada is one of two winners from the unraced Zeditave mare Alborada.
Alborada, a daughter of Born Western, is a three quarter sister to Maribrynong Plate winner The Heavyweight and stakes winner and successful Western Australian sire Zedrich.
The latest yearling from Alborada, a lovely chestnut filly by Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown, is in the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft for January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The filly is catalogued as lot number 382 and is one of eight outstanding prospects making up the Erinvale draft currently being prepared in Victoria.
