Bargain filly Private Dance will be aimed at group races following her highly impressive win at Ascot yesterday.
The lightly raced three-year-old daughter of Umatilla came from well back in the field to break her maiden status in style.
Private Dance chased home the exciting Luckygray at her previous run and yesterday relished the step to 1400 metres.
Trainer Rob Wells paid just $1,250 for Private Dance when she was a weanling at the 2008 Magic Millions Perth Winter Thoroughbred Sale at Belmont.
She’s already earned over $25,000 and the best is sure to come as her distances are increased over the coming months and seasons.
“That was her first run last week for about 160 days,” Wells pointed out. “I’d been a bit easy on her.”
“I had this 1400 metre race picked for her about a month and it’s all worked out perfect.”
“I must say that is one of the best rides I’ve seen for a long while. It was a great ride from Kyra.”
“I’m really excited about the filly,” Wells said. “With a bit of luck and if she pulls up well she will go into a mile race here and then we’ll definitely look at the Champion Fillies (Stakes).”
“I think she is up to that grade.”
Private Dance is the first winner for her dam – the lightly raced Danehill Dancer mare Midas Magic,
Midas Magic in turn is from a Rory’s Jester half sister to group winners Total Departure and Nom De Plume.
Further back hers is the same family as international Group One winners Life Cycle and Vaudeville.
Meanwhile, Foo Foo the Snoo burst into contention for the $250,000 Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic when she scored an impressive debut win on the same card yesterday.
A daughter of Starcraft, Foo Foo the Snoo showed an impressive turn of foot in the straight to reel in the favourite Hydroflight and win by three parts of a length.
Trainer Lindsey Smith predicted a bright future for the filly who was purchased by Premium Bloodstock Services for $48,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
“She’s always shown a bit,” Smith said. “And if you looked at the trials closely you’d see she had some easy trials.”
“We thought the distance might be against her. The smaller field might have helped her.”
“I’m not sure of the depth of the field but in a year’s time she will be a nice horse.”
Smith said the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Ascot would be the next major mission for the well bred youngster.
She is one of three winners, from three to race, for the city winning Royal Academy mare Miss Astur.
Miss Astur is a three quarter siuster to Whisper Bay and half sister to Force Apollo, Frisky Lady and Caltra – the stakes performed grandam of Graceful Anna.
