Bargain buy Sanderson showed he was on track for a crack at the Queensland Derby with a thrilling win in today’s $125,000 Group Three Gunsynd Classic (1600m) at Eagle Farm.
In a driving three way finish, Sanderson did best to edge out Listen Son and Brave the Way.
The exciting three-year-old has emerged as one of the buys of the 2009 sale year.
He was snapped up by connections for just $3,000 from last year’s Magic Millions Summer Carnival Sale at the Gold Coast.
The Oaklands Stud bred and sold youngster has already earned $241,000 and with bigger fish to fry over the carnival that figure looks destined to rise.
Prepared at the Gold Coast by Kelly Doughty, Sanderson was ridden to victory by Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning jockey Jason Holder.
By former star Queensland sire Iglesia, Sanderson is one of two winners, from two to race, for Princess Tatsuta.
Twice a winner at distances up to 1800 metres, Princess Tatsuta is a Fuji Kiseki half sister to Major Victory.
A three time winner at two, and 11 time winner all up, Major Victory won five stakes races including the Group Three Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm.
As well as Sanderson, Iglesia has sired the impressive stakes winners Nova Star, Written Tycoon, Helideck, Diamondsondinside, Foolish, Sophia Babe and Ramiro.
His other stars have included Tripitz, Humma, Reigart (now Fly High in Hong Kong) and Safe Sanctuary (now New Target in Malaysia).
Oaklands Stud, who bred and sold Sanderson, have a quality draft heading to the upcoming Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.
The breeders of AJC Australian Derby winner Shoot Out are regularly represented by winners around Australia and overseas.
