Sistine Angel heads to the Group One Thousand Guineas in sparkling form following her fast finishing win in today’s Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
A recent winner of the Group Three HDF McNeil Stakes at Caulfield, Sistine Angel came with a barnstorming finish under Craig Williams to get the result by a widening head margin.
Winning trainer Andrew Noblet ruled out an Oaks campaign for the filly – who would could be sent for a spell following the Guineas on Wednesday week.
“It was a really good effort,” Noblet said. “She got a long way back and just got there on the line.”
“She’s going the right way for nine days time and that’s her main aim this prep and if we can get that – it’s been a great preparation for her,” he added.
“She will run in the Guineas and just maybe the Coolmore (Stud Stakes) – but I don’t know.”
Bred by Warren Gellard of Kalgoorlie, Sistine Angel was purchased by Noblet for $60,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale. As it stands she’s already won over $272,000 and is a Group Two and Three winner.
“We bought her in Perth and had some good clients get into her and it’s been great for them.”
“She was a very athletic filly (at the sales). She had a great attitude and she still displays that now.”
“She’s got a beautiful attitude and you could see that when she paraded today – she was so relaxed in the yard.”
Williams has a good opinion of Sistine Angel and said he was looking forward to the Guineas with a good deal of confidence.
“She put the writing on the wall two runs ago,” the top hoop said. “She drew the outside today and we wanted her to jump cleanly and she did.”
“If she can get an inside barrier in the Thousand Guineas that will really aid her – so she can be close.”
“I liked the way she picked up (today). I have a lot of time for the second horse. She lifted and she won with a bit of ease in the end.”
“She’s going the right way and Andrew’s done a good job with her,” Williams summed up.
Sistine Angel, by leading Vinery Stud stallion Testa Rossa, is one of two winners, from two runners, produced by the unraced Peintre Celebre mare Famous Painter.
Famous Painter is a daughter of the stakes winning and top producing Rancher mare Rancheetah – making her a half sister to the stakes winners Gallopini and Land Speed Record.
Her latest yearling, an attractive chestnut colt by AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Excites, is being prepared for February’s 2011 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
