Promising two-year-old Star Salute emphasised the strength and competitiveness of the recent Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic field by scoring a solid win at Sandown in Melbourne this afternoon.

A member of the all conquering Peter Moody stable at Caulfield, Star Salute finished on the placgetters heels in the recent Morphettville feature when sixth.

She is unbeaten in her home state after kicking away her career in style when a strong all the way winner at Sale in early March.

A daughter of former Magic Millions Classic winner General Nediym, Star Salute was purchased by Moody for $100,000 from the draft of Baramul Stud at last year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

Moody’s stable rider Luke Nolen rode Star Salute in Adelaide and was down to ride the filly again today but Ben Melham stepped in as a replacement with Nolen indisposed with illness.

“He’s a good guy Trumby (Nolen) and I’m always happy to fill in for him,” Melham said after the win.

“She’s hard fit and she controlled the race,” he added. “I let her rip just before the corner and she was strong to the line.”

“She felt really good under me. She quickened really well and there’s definitely more wins in store for her.”

At the post Star Salute had a half length to spare over the other Magic Millions runner in the field, the Robbie Griffiths trained Westend Smash – a $10,000 Adelaide buy.

Star Salute’s dam Spinning Star, a daughter of Spinning World, won two races and was placed four times in Melbourne prior to being retired to stud.

She is a three quarter sister to Spinlin and half sister to Be My Princess – a stakes winner and dam of the South African stakes winner Flying Princess.

Spinning Star is from My Dear Rebecca, a half sister to St Clemens – the stakes performed dam of Group One winner St. Clemens Belle and stakes placed, four time winner Sanctus.

A half brother to Star Salute by Group One sire Danasinga was purchased by Mark Riley for $20,000 at January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

General Nediym will be represented by his final crop  of yearlings at June’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
