Bargain buy Torio’s Quest kicked away his racetrack career in style when he swept away to win brilliantly on debut at Newcastle on Newmarket Day today.

A son of Danehill’s outstanding Irish bred son Oratorio, Torio’s Quest had trialled well in the lead up to his debut and in a brilliant performance he reeled in the favourite Oakfield Spirit and won racing away.

The three-year-old was purchased from last year’s Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling for just $15,000 by Bert Vieria and is raced by his family.

He is trained by Brett Partelle and not surprisingly he and winning rider Glen Boss were impressed with the debut victory.

“He’s a very nice horse,” Partelle said while admitting to pre-race worries about his charge being run off his legs early in the 900 metre dash.

“After he jumped very well and from that position I was very happy and Glen just let him idle.”

Partelle said Torio’s Quest had always shown him ability and predicted bigger and better wins in the future.

“He’s got a bright future. He’s shown me enough on the track to think that there might be a nice race in him a little bit later on.”

“He’s taken a bit of time. He was always a bit immature in the knees. He’s done a lot of swimming.”

“I don’t like to be too hard on them. I like them to mature and it probably goes back to the JB Cummings days.”

“I’m very happy and happy for the owners.”

Boss, who teamed up with Partelle earlier this year to win the Magic Millions Cup with Walking or Dancing, said he liked what he saw when he first laid eyes on Torio’s Quest today.

“When you get on Brett’s horses you know they are very well educated and well prepared.”

“He looked very good in the enclosure and he just felt like he was ready when he got to the barriers.”

“He was all racehorse.”

“He’s very raw. Pulling up I don’t he realised what just happened. He feels like a nice horse underneath you.”

“He might just have a good future,” Boss summed up.

By the Irish imported Oratorio, Torio’s Quest is the third winner, from three to race, for his dam Quest for Place.

Quest for Pleasure, an unraced daughter of Quest for Fame, is from the Group One VRC Oaks winner Sandy’s Pleasure.

The family also takes in the stakes gallopers Royal Hope, Startling Pleasure, The Foreman, Sandy Prospect and Beltija.

Torio’s Quest was bred and sold by the team from Bowness Stud.
