| Midfield for much of the feature, Jacquinot and race rider Damian Lane were able to unleash a stunning burst in the straight to nab In Secret in the final strides in an all Magic Millions graduate finish. A brilliant first up winner of the recent Group Three McNeil Stakes at Caulfield, Jacquinot was sent out the $6.50 second favourite for co-trainers Mick Kent and Michael Kent Jnr. “Fantastic, what a win, they don’t usually do that,” Kent said moments after the win. “The speed was on and they kept flowing and the important thing was the horse broke well and got into a winning position and he really let down well.” Jacquinot has always been a high class galloper, right from his first start and connections have been delighted with the step up he’s taken at three. “As a two-year-old he was always the horse that was going to be improve the most.” “He was awesome first up and a real set play by Mick (Price) and the team to come here, second up with a trial, keep the speed in his legs. I’m just delighted, it’s fantastic.” If all goes well, Jacquinot will step out next in the Caulfield Guineas. “The plan before today was to go two weeks into the Caulfield Guineas, we’ve ticked the Group One box so now we’ll just work out if that’s the right thing for the horse.” “He’ll be back on the truck tomorrow and we’ll take a look at him at Cranbourne and make a call,” Kent Jnr added. Winning rider Damian Lane was not surprisingly heaping praises on his mount after the stunning victory. “He was great,” Lane noted. “We discussed with the owners pre-race that perhaps they weren’t making up much ground.” “We just said we can’t really do anything else because he doesn’t jump that well. I knew I’d be off the speed and there might have been a bit more pressure than it looked like on paper than it unfolded.” “Today was by far his best run. The way he let down off that tempo was really good.” “He was really a big baby in the Autumn – just so raw. You thought if he takes that next step he could go on with it but not many do. He really has.” “Everything he does he gets more professional,” Lane added. Hopefully he can still find a bit more improvement from here.” In a storming finish Jacquinot was able to reel in the race favourite In Secret and score a brilliant win. Jacquinot was offered through the Coolmore Stud draft at the 2021 Gold Coast Yearling Sale but he was passed in, shy of his $120,000 reserve. Last night’s Group One winner Coolangatta was a graduate of the same sale. The first Group One winner for former Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase Rubick, Jacquinot is from a daughter of another former champion sale graduate in Pierro. Ponterra, the dam of Jacquinot, is a full sister to multiple Group Two winner Dragon Leap and half sister to Caulfield Guineas winner Inference and the untapped Illation. Interestingly Rubick’s other headline performer has been The Everest champ and hot young Coolmore Stud sire Yes Yes Yes – like Jacquinot, Rubick and Pierro, Yes Yes Yes was a Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate.
