Sent out the hot favourite after an outstanding debut win in late January, Hot Dipped didn’t give her followers a moment of worry as she cruised home to win by eight lengths.
Trainer Brendan McShane admitted to pre-race nerves before the juvenile feature but he needn’t had worried.
“It was the first race I’d been nervous for a long time,” he said. “I guess it was a sign I knew I had a very good horse.”
“She has always shown plenty of ability and she was impressive on debut and tonight she was very good again.”
McShane purchased the daughter of Written Tycoon and the stakes winning Rubiton mare Galvanized for $33,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
“She’s turned into a great investment,” McShane noted. “I’m not exactly sure where she will go next.”
“She could back up next week but she will have to recover from this race very well.”
The race McShane was referring to is the listed Gold Sovereign Stakes and a win in that event would add a valuable stakes success.
Hot Dipped was bred and sold through the draft of Reiby Lodge’s Rob Dixon and he was all smiles after the race.
Meanwhile, Blaze Forth led home a one-two for leading trainer John Blacker when he swept home in the TasBreeders Magic Millions Tasmanian 3YO Classic (1220m) a little later in the evening.
A Gold Coast graduate for Wattle Brae Stud, Blaze Forth finished too well under young apprentice Boris Thornton to win in great style.
Blacker saddled up three runners in the three-year-old feature and he also provided the race runner-up Jazzy’s Choice.
The other feature of the night was the Sydeston Night Cup and Smoke ‘n’ Whisky provided a timely update for his half sister by Needs Further who goes under the hammer as Lot 112 tomorrow for Armidale Stud.
Smoke ‘n’ Whisky, another winner on the card for John Blacker, will head to the Group Three Launceston Cup following his seventh win tonight.
He himself was a graduate of the Armidale Stud draft at the 2011 Tasmanian Yearling Sale where he sold for $13,000.
The 2016 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held at Launceston’s Inveresk Showgrounds on Thursday from 12 noon (local AEDT). To view the online catalogue click here.
