Mahuta continued his meteoric rise when he strolled to his fourth straight win in Saturday’s Group Two Sandown Guineas (1600m).

Prepared by the carnival’s leading trainer Darren Weir, Mahuta over came a three wide trip to win the day’s feature in emphatic style.

Highly regarded kiwi Dal Cielo was second home, but was never a winning threat for Mahuta who in six weeks has gone from a maiden to a three time stakes winner.

“He’s an improving type horse,” Weir said. “He always showed promise from day one.”

“He’s just one of those horses that got into a rhythm, a purple patch, and he just keeps improving.”

“Today he showed a real turn of foot when he straightened. He went really well today, I was really happy with him.”

Mahuta, a son of Danehill’s Golden Slipper winning son Flying Spur, was purchased by Weir for $35,000 from the draft of Redbank North at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.

Earlier sold by Glastonbury Farms at the 2013 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Mahuta is one of three winners for the 100 per cent winner producer Vahine.

An unraced Zabeel three quarter sister to Group One winner Isolda, Vahine is also the dam of Anlon, a Magic Millions graduate who won seven races including a Chester Manifold Stakes and earned over $285,000.

Mahuta rounds out his first racing preparation with four wins and a second from six starts with earnings of over $362,000.

Casino Dancer sent her earnings past half a million dollars when she beat the boys in Saturday’s Group Three Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Sandown.

The good looking five-year-old daughter of Casino Prince sat deep throughout but was able to come with a strong burst in the straight to win under the urgings of James Winks.

Casino Dancer has been an incredible money spinner for the trainer Mike Van Gestel and his family after they purchased her as an unraced prospect from Patinack Farm for $9,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions National Racehorse Sale.

The Eclipse Stakes wasn’t originally on the agenda for the recent Angst Stakes winner, but they decided to roll the dice another time in Melbourne after her eye catching third in last Saturday’s Matriarch Stakes at Flemington.

“We were going to go home last Sunday but we decided to stay another week,” Van Gestel said. “It was worth staying.”

“She’s been very good to us. I was very confident today.”

“I’m sure she’s due for a spell but we might have a look at the Villiers,” Van Gestel added. “She’s going back tomorrow and if she gets home well and does well, we’ll nominate.”

Casino Dancer is one of two winners for the Twining mare Nine Covers –  winner of three races at 1000 and 1100 metres and half sister to Caulfield stakes winner Gawne.

Third dam Satin Sand won eight races including the Group One Orlando Wines (Coolmore) Classic.

Steel Zip added another feature win to his impressive record when the grey came from a near hopeless position to win a thrilling edition of the listed Keith Noud Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The late driving win from Steel Zip denied 68-year-old veteran rider Tony Erhart from being the oldest jockey to win a metropolitan race in Brisbane when he and his mount Top Tone were nosed out on the post.

Winning trainer Pat Duff was delighted with the win of the stable stalwart, a horse who had a great connection with his wife Dinah who sadly lost her battle with cancer three years ago.

“There was some emotion as it was Dinah’s last horse and I also felt sad for Tony (Erhart),” Duff told reporters at Doomben.

“Tony rode Steel Zip work during the week and if I had any disappointment it was beating Tony – we’ve been friends for a lot of years.”

Steel Zip was bred and sold by Daandine Stud for $13,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The Duff stable has prepared the gelding to 11 wins and 17 placings from 67 starts and earnings of over $780,000.

He is one of three winners produced by the Brisbane two-year-old winning Cossack Warrior mare Zip. His sire Canadian Silver was a Group Two winner in Canada who has produced four stakes winners – the others being Make Mine Magic, Top Marc and Canadian Time.
