The final pieces of the puzzle for the two feature races run on Magic Millions day this Saturday came together this morning.
Presented by Racing Queensland, the barrier draws for the $2 million Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic and $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas were conducted.
Sunny skies attracted thousands to the unique Surfers Paradise event which saw royalty rub shoulders with the thoroughbred industry’s elite.
Nervous connections lined by to randomly choose their barriers with favourite Wicked Intent coming up with gate five in the capacity field.
Flemington winner Claudia Jean drew barrier 1, while Gai Waterhouse’s Carriages drew the outside gate of 21 (16 after the scratchings).
Meanwhile, the favourite Hijack Hussy confirmed her place at the top of markets for the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas when she drew gate six for the big race.
Jockey Tim Bell, who joined Tommy Berry, Paul Hammersley and Brenton Avdulla in the crowd pleasing beach gallop, was delighted with the barrier for the Kris Lees prepared stakes winner.
Racing Queensland chairman Kevin Dixon said the annual barrier draw was one of the highlights of the Magic Millions carnival.
“Nowhere else in the world can you watch top class thoroughbred racing within walking distance to one of the world’s most beautiful beaches,” Mr Dixon said.
“The Magic Millions Carnival is an event like no other and we look forward to another great week of sales and racing here on the Gold Coast.”
