Platinum Kingdom won a third stakes when he cruised to victory in today’s listed Southland Guineas (1600m) at Ascot Park in New Zealand.

Second during the early and middle stages of the race, Platinum Kingdom raced to the lead approaching the home turn and from there the result was never in doubt.

At the post the Lisa Latta trained and Darryl Bradley ridden three-year-old still had a comfortable length margin.

The talented performer is now a three time stakes winner having already won the Champagne Stakes and Dunedin Guineas at black type level.

Platinum Kingdom was knocked down to leading bloodstock agent and now Magic Millions’ New South Wales consultant Paul Beamish.

He was purchased for $67,500 for New Zealand based pair John Street and Neville McAlister – clients of leading trainer Lisa Latta.

“It’s very much a team effort,” Beamish said of selection and purchase of Platinum Kingdom.

“Neville is a pedigree buff and what he does is chooses a lot of exciting pedigrees and then we go around and tick off on the types that suit the pedigree.”

“He was a really attractive type. A strong muscular colt. He wasn’t that big was as a weanling but he looked a running style colt,” Beamish added. 

Platinum Kingdom is the first stakes winner to date for the former outstanding sprinter Magnus.

He is from the unraced Giant’s Causeway mare Miss Rangoon – a half sister to the Santa Anita group winner Spring Meadow.

Platinum Kingdom’s third dam was an Oaks winner in the United Stakes by Northern Dancer who won six races during her career.

His fourth dam in turn was a Group Two winner of 14 races who was successful six times at black type level.
