The success for the progeny of Real Saga on the racecourse yesterday flowed over to the sale ring today when one of his colts topped the fifth session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Catalogued as lot 672, the good looking chestnut colt from the city winning Strategic mare Maxy Legs was offered by Widden Stud and will stay local after being purchased for $240,000.
The colt was purchased by Robert Anderson’s RMA Bloodstock and will join the stables of leading Gold Coast trainer Noel Doyle.
“We really liked the horse,” Anderson said. “He is a nice colt and in the same mould as Biggles who we’ve had some good luck with.”
“He’s a big, strong, well grown and we picked him out a number of days ago.”
“With the result of the race yesterday (Real Surreal winning the $2 million Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic) it probably pushed the price up.”
The colt was one of 12 yearlings to sell for six figure amounts during the sale which has a great record for producing high class racehorses at value prices.
Real Saga also supplied the day’s second top seller – the colt from Karuta Queen’s half sister Amusements, sold for $150,000.
Offered by Fig Tree Thoroughbreds, as agent for Fleetwood Stud, that colt will also remain on the Gold Coast after being purchased by Heinrich Bloodstock.
A Not a Single Doubt colt from Tyreel Stud was the third top seller, snapped up by leading Adelaide based bloodstock agent Adrian Hancock for $140,000.
“It was a solid day’s selling and it was very pleasing to see healthy increases across the average, gross and median,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
“Astute buyers were at the sale and no doubt purchased some great value horses – this session is renowned for producing countless black type performers each year.”
“It would have been nice for the clearance rate to be a little higher but overall the results are extremely positive,” Cox added.
Leading South Australian based trainer Tony McEvoy continued his sale buying spree with five purchases at a spend of $292,000 to finish the day as leading buyer.
Group One winning trainers Clarry Conners, Mark Kavanagh, Paul Perry, Peter Moody, Colin Little, Gerald Ryan and Tony Gollan were all successful buyers today.
As well as a healthy buying bench from around Australia, there was good international interest with horses sold to New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore and Macau.
The final sixth session of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale will be held on Tuesday and be followed by a quality packed racehorse and broodmare sale.
The yearlings will kick off the day before drafts from Darley, Patinack Farm, Heinrich Bloodstock and Royston Stud will be offered later in the day.
