Whisperossa rounded out a successful Magic Millions raceday when he scored a thrilling win in the $100,000 Sky Racing World Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
In the closest finish of an action packed day, Whisperossa got the verdict from the judge with a margin of a half head.
In a tight finish Whisperossa’s trainer, Broadmeadow’s Darren Smith wasn’t 100 per cent sure his charge had won.
“At first I thought I did but then I started to panic,” he said moments after the victory.
“It’s a great thrill,” Smith said. “We set the horse for this race.”
“He went and had a trial at Randwick the other day and it was a sensational trial and Glyn (Schofield) was quite confident to come up and ride him.”
“He’s an honest horse. He was a little unlucky at his past couple of runs. It’s a great thrill to win a race on a great day.”
A graduate of session six of the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Whisperossa was purchased from the Baramul Stud draft by Ian Oliver for $20,000.
As it stands his impressive race record reads out at five wins and two second placings from just 15 runs and earnings of over $190,000.
A gelded son of former Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Testa Rossa, Whisperossa is one of four winners for his dam Lady Triscanny.
A daughter of influential sire Sir Tristram, Lady Triscanny was unraced but is a daughter of the stakes winning Melbourne galloper Sister Canny – a full sister to Group One winners Canny Lad and Canny Lass.
It’s the same family as group winners Camarena, Camarilla, Rothesay, Rich Dreams and former champion juvenile Sepoy.
