She’s a Stalker emerged as a contender for next month’s $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas with a strong win in today’s $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO Stakes (1200m).
In upsetting the hot favourite and proven stakes winner Driefontein, She’s a Stalker moved up the order of entry for the rich Guineas race. She is now 17th on the ballot list.
Today she filly showed the ability connections have always known she possessed with a powerful one length success.
The win is the biggest to date for Gosford horsewoman Angela Davies.
“I bought her as a yearling up at the Gold Coast,” a jubilant Davies said. “It was the first time I’d been to the Magic Millions.”
“She wasn’t quite ready at Canterbury (when second at her last run). We went around and she was only about 80 per cent.”
“She’d just improved out of sight between then and now. I could not have been happier with my horse.”
“I thought she looked a look million dollars. I didn’t know if she’d be good enough (to beat the favourite) but we found out we were.”
The win gave proven big race rider Corey Brown a massive thrill and he predicted a bright future for the Ferocity filly, who cost $70,000.
“Her first run back at Canterbury she ran well. She came well off a good speed and she found the line well.”
“We always knew she would improve from that run and she’s still got a little improvement from what you saw today.”
“I’m just rapt for Ange and the connections. They’re great people and they deserve a good horse.”
“I’ve ridden for Ange since I was 15 down at Gosford as an apprentice. She was like a second mum to me really.”
“It’s great to ride a winner for Ange. But for her to get a good horse is even better.”
Brown said with the improvement he expected with this run under her belt that She’s a Stalker will prove more than competitive if she makes the Magic Millions Guineas field.
“I think she would be hard to hold out,” the Melbourne Cup winning hoop added.
A daughter of Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic winner Ferocity, She’s a Stalker was bred by Gary Garland from Pittsworth, west of Toowoomba in South East Queensland.
One of 89 individual winners for her sire, She’s a Stalker is one of two winners from two to race for the winning More Than Ready mare Vintage Class.
Vintage Class is from the Rory’s Jester mre Smyzter’s Fury, who in turn is from the group winning Deputy Minister mare O’Deputy.
The Garland family who bred She’s a Stalker have a filly being prepared for January’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The filly, catalogued as lot 661, will be the first lot offered during the fifth session of the popular auction. She is by former sprint star Court Command.
