Leading Perth trainer Simon Miller predicted a bright future for exciting filly Miss Bux after she won yesterday’s listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) at Ascot.
Taking the massive step from a provincial maiden to stakes company, Miss Bux emerged as a likely new star for the west with a dazzling all the way victory.
The result was a triumph for Miller with his other runner Hard Ball Get, a cleverly named three-year-old by Aussie Rules, running a strong second placing.
Miss Bux, described as the quickest three-year-old in a stable littered with classic aged stars, nearly didn’t make it to the track.
Purchased at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $170,000 from the draft of Rosari Farm, Miss Bux was found to be suffering from a severe case of travel sickness when she arrived in Perth in the weeks following.
The daughter of General Nediym spent an extended period in a veterinary hospital before she was eventually given the all clear. There were many days when connections felt they could lose their exciting prospect.
“She’s well above average,” Miller said. “She’s our quickest three-year-old by panels.”
“Going from a maiden to a stakes race it didn’t really worry me. She’s a machine.”
“It’s been a roller coaster ride for the filly,” he added. “I bought her at the Gold Coast, I just fell in love with her and had to fend off a couple of heavy hitters to get her.”
“I got her home and off the truck and she nearly died. She had to spend three months at Murdoch and at one stage was given 12 hours. But she survived, she’s a fighter.”
“We had to put her in the paddock for six months and let her. She missed all her two-year-old racing because she nearly died.”
Miss Bux is the 43rd individual stakes winner for former outstanding Magic Millions Classic winner and proven Group One sire General Nediym.
She is a half sister to the Melbourne stakes winning juvenile Atomic.
Both Miss Bux and Atomic are from the seven time winning and stakes placed kiwi galloper Fluffy Duck
Fluffy Duck in turn is a half siser to the stakes winner Pricked (now in Hong Kong under the name of Albatross) and stakes placed Acupuncture, who in turn is the dam of black type performed and three time winner Intencion.
Miss Bux’s third dam, the Luskin Star mare Mother Duck, was a former high class galloper and is well remembered for his third placing to Snippets in the inaugural running of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
As well as her placing in the MM Classic, Mother Duck won the Group Three Gimcrack Stakes and three other sprinting listed events. She would go on and produce no fewer than nine winners at stud.
The win of Miss Bux boosted the pedigrees of a pair of close relations from Rosari Farm being prepared for January’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Lot 157 is a Flying Spur colt from the top producer Quack, making him a half brother to Fluffy Duck, the dam of Miss Bux.
Lot 765 is a Nicconi filly from the unraced Align mare Waddle – she being a half sister to Fluffy Duck.
The 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale commences with session one on January 9.
