Quality filly Nechita emerged as one of the new stars of the Australian turf with a stunning win in Saturday’s Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.
The filly, always held in high regard by trainer John Thompson, is yet another star filly to have emerged from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Nechita, a graduate of Edinglassie Stud, was purchased by Rick Connolly on behalf of Patinack Farm at the 2011 auction for $130,000.
“She is by far the fastest horse I’ve ever had anything to do with,” an emotional Thompson said.
“She just has a scintillating turn of foot off a hot speed.”
“She is a good horse going forward and I’m sure she has got plenty more of them in store.”
The win capped a memorable afternoon for Sydney based jockey Christian Reith.
“It’s my first Group One win ever,” Reith beamed. “Her turn of foot, nothing in the three-year-olds in Australia has got her turn of foot, it’s very explosive.”
Nechita led home a quinella finish in the Group One for champion sire Fastnet Rock – a fitting result in the race for Coolmore Stud who sponsored the event.
The quinella-getters join the likes of Atlantic Jewel, Mosheen, Sea Siren, Lone Rock and Irish Lights – other Group One filly stars for the sire.
Nechita is the second named foal produced by the former classy Peintre Celebre racemare Artistique.
A four time winner and earner of almost $200,000, Artistique has also produced the multiple city winner Art Thou Ready and herself is a half sister to the stakes winners Chiming Lass and Winona.
Nechita is the latest in a long line of star fillies to have emerged from the Gold Coast Yearling Sale with the likes of Commanding Jewel, Alzora and Whateverwhenever all valuable stakes winners in recent weeks.
A half brother to Nechita by exciting young stallion Northern Meteor will turn heads at January’s 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The colt will be presented at the auction by Edinglassie Stud, the same farm which produced Nechita to auction on behalf of her breeders Jason Abrahams and Judy Somers.
