A filly by Breeders Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller topped today’s second session of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.
Catalogued as lot 311, the lovely bay filly was presented at the auction by Wentworth based Sullivans Run and after a fierce bidding battle, Oakbank based horseman Bill Smart snared the filly for $61,000.
Smart, a regular buyer at the Adelaide Yearling Sale, outbid Jeremy Rogers, stable foreman for leading Ballarat horseman Darren Weir for today’s prized lot.
The filly is a half sister to the promising Singapore galloper High Tick and is from a winning Woodman half sister to triple stakes winner El Maze.
On a day for the value hunters, over $1.34 million was traded on 126 lots sold at an average price of $10,651 and clearance rate of 74 per cent.
“It was a solid day’s selling,” Magic Millions Adelaide Manager Chris Russell reported.
“It’s pleasing to see the South Australian buyers so strong over the past two days with their spend higher this year than in 2011.”
“It was the same case for out international buyers – with strong interest from Singapore, Macau, New Zealand, Malaysia as well as China,” Russell added.
“Bill Smart, who purchased the top lot today, is a regular at Magic Millions Sales around the country and we wish him, as well as all buyers, the best of luck with their purchases.”
The Adelaide Yearling Sale is renowned for its tradition and value and there’s little doubt that this reputation will stretch into the future.
Graduates of this sale include the likes of Divine Madonna, Mummify, Devil Moon, Undoubtedly, Torio’s Quest, Augusta Proud, Go the Knuckle and Alezan Thunder.
