Rockhampton filly Divine City will almost certainly back up in next Saturday’s $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) after she scored an impressive win in today’s $100,000 Gold Coast City Council Handicap (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
Unlucky in a string of recent runs in Brisbane, Divine City was able to bounce back to her best with a strong closing win in the feature event.
Prepared by Garnett Taylor, Divine City will be one of the fairytale stories of the turf should she reproduce her winning performance in seven days time.
“She’s been down for a few weeks now and had a few unlucky starts,” Taylor said of Divine City.
“She goes pretty good but she’s her own worst enemy sometimes. She was a little on her toe again today but she is getting better.”
“She was a little closer today – she’s normally back a bit further.”
“The owners bought her from the sales for over $7,000 and she’s done a great job already,” Taylor reported.
Taylor wouldn’t commit to a start in the Guineas immediately after today’s race, saving the filly’s Central Queensland based owners would give the call.
“It’s all up to them. If they want to run and the horse is well then we’ll have a shot.”
“We bought her down to get into the Magic Millions (Guineas) – so I’ll talk to the owners and we’ll make a decision from there.”
Now the winner of three of her seven lifetime runs, Divine City is turning out an incredible money spinner for her buyer and senior part owner Ron Beak.
Beak parted with just $7,000 for the filly who was sold by Oaklands Stud at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.
Divine City, a daughter of Magic Millions Adelaide Classic winner Ferocity, is the first winner for her dam, the lightly raced Anabaa mare Miss Katy Louise.
She in turn is from a Sydney winning Marscay mare who is from the stakes performed Sir Tristram mare Patricia.
Further back it is the same family as Group One winners Pride of Rosewood, Admiral Lincoln and champion New Zealand filly Challen.
A full brother to Divine City has been entered by Oaklands Stud for this March’s 2012 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.
The colt is catalogued as Lot 160 and he will go under the hammer during the first session of the sale on March 18.
