Peter Moody’s season continued on its winning way at Seymour on Sunday when the stable produced a pair of impressive debut winners.
The two-year-olds – Club Command and Poetic Verse – were both purchased by the master trainer at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Club Command, who cost $150,000 from the Raheen Stud draft, didn’t give his rivals a look in – streaking clear to win by four and three quarter lengths.
The performance was outstanding considering The minor placegetters Encoded and Eight Stars had placed at all their runs leading into the race.
On the same card Club Command’s stablemate Poetic Verse, a $65,000 purchase from the Woodside Park draft, romped away from her rivals in her respective event to win by three lengths.
She cruised home to beat And Rock – a Fastnet Rock youngster who was sent out favourite after two encouraging efforts in stakes races.
Club Command, a gelded son of Danehill’s leading sire son Commands, is the first runner for his dam, the four time winning Dodge mare Stepping.
A multiple Brisbane winner, Stepping is a three quarter sister to the Adelaide and Sydney winning juvenile Yes She Can Cancan.
Yes She Can Cancan is making a name for herself as a top producer – already responsible for three stakes performers including Sydney’s Ofcourseican and South African juvenile Gimmethegreenlight.
Stepping is therefore closely related to another Raheen mare, La Goulue – a stakes performed Danehill Dancer mare who was ironically trained by Peter Moody.
Poetic Verse is a filly by former Magic Millions graduate and Group One winning sprinter Charge Forward.
She is the first runner for her dam, the lightly raced Pentire mare Pentameter.
Pentameter is a full sister to Group One SA Derby winner Pantani and half sister to Stradbroke Handicap winner St. Basil.
The new season will be an exciting one for the Moody stable with the stable having bought the top two prices lots from January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
One of them – the Redoute’s Choice half brother to More Joyous – sold for $1.15 million – the top priced yearling in Australia in 2011.
