Cups king Bart Cummings looks to have another exciting prospect on his hands following the outstanding win of Sonic Blast at Canterbury today.
A youngster by Charge Forward, Sonic Blast came with a strong run from well back on the corner to win impressively.
The colt was racing for just the second time and he did everything right today after throwing away any chance on debut earlier in the month when he ran off the track at Randwick.
Sent back to the trials, Sonic Blast came through that Randwick hit out well and was primed for his latest run today.
“We indicated to the owners about a month ago that he had the ability to win first up,” Cummings’ grandson and foreman James Cummings said.
“It ended up a bit embarassing when he ran off the track and was beaten 30 lengths.”
“He showed what he was capable of today. He was out in the right spot on what is looking a heavy track here.”
“I’d suggest he’s got the world at his feet. He’s got all the ability and hopefully he can put it together and perhaps there is a nice race there for him in the spring,” Cummings added.
Winning rider Tim Clark was impressed with the racing manners of Sonic Blast this time around.
“He got around the corners really well,” Clark said. “He just wandered a little bit late.”
“He’s a horse who’s going to appreciate more ground. He was very good to the line.”
Sonic Blast is a son of Charge Forward – a former Magic Millions Yearling purchase who raced with great success and retired to stud after winning the Group One Galaxy Handicap.
His dam, the once raced Zabeel mare Balmoral Belle, is a full sister to the multiple stakes winning stayer Scouting Wide and half sister to the New Zealand stakes performer Cadre Noir (now known as Great Guy in Hong Kong).
It is the same family as international Group One winners Molesnes, Cherokee Rose, Mastery, Spin Around, Noordhoek Flyer and Kirklees.
Sonic Blast was bred by Peter Horwitz and was sold through the draft of Vinery Stud for $90,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
