Trevor Bailey predicted a stakes future for Excapishe after that youngster thrashed his rivals on debut in the Enwise Electrical 2YO Plate (1030m) at Doomben this afternoon.

Sent out the favourite after a runaway trial win at the Gold Coast, Excapishe flew the barriers and led into the straight before steaming clear of his rivals to win by almost five lengths.

The two-year-old gelding by Exceed and Excel was purchased by trainer Trevor Bailey for $100,000 at last year’s Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast.

“I bought two horses at the sale – this bloke and another one by Fastnet Rock for $150,000,” Bailey recalled.

“You go to the sales and try to buy the type of horse you’re looking for. If they’ve got the breeding and also what catches your eye then that’s what you go for.”

“He breezed up well and caught my eye at the sale,” he added.

Right from the time the youngster was put back into training for his racetrack career, Excapishe showed plenty of ability.

“He’s always shown plenty. He’s just taken a little while to grow into himself – he’s pretty much there now – but not complete.”

Bailey feels the youngster is a stakes class galloper of the future.

“We’ll get him home and see how he is in the next week or so,” Bailey noted. “But he’ll probably have another run – whether it be in Brisbane or at the Grafton Carnival.”

“He’s a nice horse with a bright future,” Bailey summed up.

Most recently purchased for $100,000 as a ready to run two-year-old, Excapishe was originally purchased by Stephen Jones for $16,000 from the Murrulla Stud draft at last year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

He was then broken in and trained for the Horses in Training Sale where he was offered by Attunga Stud.

Excapishe is one of three winners produced by Primacy’s lightly raced full sister Capishe.

Her peak performer to date is the stakes winning Catbird mare Coincidental – a mare who as well as winning at stakes level was successful in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Handicap.

Sire Exceed and Excel completed a quick fire Brisbane juvenile double when his daughter C’Est Lorraine won the following event on the Doomben card.

From the stakes performed Canny Lad mare Canny Princess, C’Est Lorraine was purchased for $70,000 from the Kulani Park draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is trained by Lindsay Gough and was ridden to victory today by proven big race rider Chris Munce.
