Slick Tamworth sprinter Border Rebel toyed with his rivals yesterday in a crushing front running display to score in the Listed Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Saturday’s victory extended Border Rebel’s impressive career statistics to 13 wins from just 21 appearances, and confirmed his arrival as a serious Queensland Winter carnival sprint contender.

Border Rebel was perfectly rated at Eagle Farm by boom Tamworth apprentice Tim Bell, who has built up a strong affinity with the five year-old gelding.

The win signified back to back Hinkler Handicap wins following Border Rebel’s 3.5 len demolition of last years field when also partnered by Bell.

With prizemoney earnings of over $532,000, Border Rebel has been a fantastic money spinner for owner Veronica Scott-Mason.

Scott-Mason selected Border Rebel at the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and gave just $36,000 for the son of Johannesburg. He was consigned by Jonel Park Thoroughbreds of Allora.

Border Rebel is out of the Flying Spur mare Frontier a winner of 4 races up to 1200m.

Frontier’s pedigree boasts significant speed influences through her stakeswinning dam Chador (by Marscay) and stakeswinning grand dam Emirate (by Without Fear).
