Denise Martin and Gai Waterhouse struck at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont this evening when they snapped up a colt by Fastnet Rock for $180,000.
The Sydney based thoroughbred identities were delighted to snare the youngster who was offered by Kambula Stud, as agent for Victoria’s Woodside Park Stud.
Martin, who on Saturday will be in Tasmania to cheer on her Derby runner, Magic Millions graduate Kinnersley, said the colt looked a great value purchase.
“I love the Fastnet Rocks,” Martin said. “He’s such a young, hot sire and until now it’s been difficult to secure a nice one.”
“Gai and Greg (Nash, vet) thought he was one of the top picks of the sale.”
“He has everything pointing toward him being a runner.”
Waterhouse and Martin are on their first visit to the Perth Yearling Sale and they have been impressed with what they have seen.
“Neither Denise or I have been to this sale,” Waterhouse noted. “But we’ll be back.”
“The horses are well prepared and I’ve really enjoyed the trip and I’m already looking forward to next year.”
“Denise was delighted to be able to get the Fastnet Rock colt tonight – he will return to Sydney and be syndicated by Star Thoroughbreds,” Waterhouse summed up.
The second session of the sale continues.
