Spirited bidding from a strong local, interstate and international buying bench helped boost figures across the board during Wednesday night’s first session of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
During the session over $3.8 million was traded on 81 yearlings at an average price of $47,500 and a clearance rate of 77 per cent.
The sale kicked away brilliantly when the first lot of the sale, a filly by More Than Ready, sold for the session topping price of $230,000.
By the end of the night 10 yearlings had sold for six figures – a record for the first session of the auction.
Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester was delighted the session boasted such strong figures.
“To see the average price increase by almost 20 per cent and the clearance rate rise from 70 to 77 per cent is very encouraging,” Chester commented.
“We have a great buying bench at the sale – the smart buyers are all here – those serious about finding the next Scenic Blast.”
While the initial offering of the sale, the filly by More Than Ready snapped up by BC3 Thoroughbreds, topped the session – a son of Fastnet Rock at $220,000 proved the highest priced colt of the night.
The youngster, from the stakes winning Fusaichi Pegasus mare Imaginaire, was purchased by Tiong Seng Ong, a regular Magic Millions client from Singapore.
Singapore buyers were extremely active – signing for no fewer than eight yearlings tonight. Another three were snapped up by top Malaysian horseman KL Chong.
“It’s a real Magic Millions sale – the variety on offer is second to none and there is something for everyone,” Chester said.
“None of our sales are elitist and this is a fine example of that – the Perth Sale has a proud record of producing stakes winners across all levels of the market.”
The second session of the sale will be held from 4pm (WA time) on Thursday.
“We’ve got some great prospects to go under the hammer – hopefully the growth we made tonight continues then.”
